Unity Works: Empowering People with Learning Disabilities Through CAPTR
THE CHALLENGE
Unity Works is a charity dedicated to supporting people with a learning disability to gain skills, experience, and meaningful employment. Part of Thera Trust, Unity Works empowers individuals through training, work placements, and tailored support, helping them build independence and confidence. By running inclusive enterprises and partnering with employers, Unity Works creates opportunities that transform lives and strengthen communities. They have designed innovative, person-centred services that include:
1. Supported Employment
2. Employer Engagement
3. Accessible Apprentice Programme
4. Training Placements
5. Supported Internships
6. Health and Wellbeing Programme
7. Adult Community Learning
The Unity Works team used to manage these services using paper-based forms and Excel sheets. Not having a comprehensive learning and employment portal was impacting the quality and preventing them from reaching more people. They needed a digital solution that allows effective management of their services, efficient coordination and interaction of users they support and the service providers.
THE SOLUTION
We worked with Unity Works to deliver a web-based interventions management solution, CAPTR. We specifically adapted CAPTR to meet the needs of users with disabilities by including visual aids, greater customisation and co-designed intuitive navigation that meets WCAG 2.1 standards. The solution included functionality for:
Learners: CAPTR supports creating a custom Personal Learning Plan. The plan is built around the goals the individual wants to achieve and the actions they take to achieve those goals. Their progress is tracked through timelines. Through AI, CAPTR suggests highly tailored learning resources to support the learner’s development and progression.
Job Seekers: CAPTR includes a job portal. The job portal within CAPTR matches opportunities to the job seekers’ interests and progression via artificial intelligence. The learners can view job opportunities, build CVs, and apply for jobs from a single, secure platform.
Staff/Keyworker: The staff can configure assessments to identify the wants and needs of people, build personalised plans, monitor progress and create reports for each learner. They can also securely interact with learners to provide 1-2-1 assistance and resolve any queries they have. Information sharing is controlled using Role-Based Access Control (RBAC), ensuring only the right professional has access to the learner’s data.
Service providers: The Unity Works team can now onboard multiple service providers and employers, allowing them to manage their services through a user-friendly portal and access learners’ and job seekers’ data to provide tailored support.
Data collection and reporting: CAPTR enables the creation of reports from any datasets. The dashboards and data are accessible through RBAC and can be displayed and shared in various formats. The reports can be distributed to multiple stakeholders to demonstrate impact and support informed decision-making, allowing for tailored assistance to users.
“Meganexus listened to the specific needs of our organisation and worked with us to ensure that CAPTR felt like our platform and was designed around our needs. Most importantly, it has allowed us to help more people, more effectively, towards employment, advocating for themselves to reach their goals.”

THE IMPACT AND RESULTS
From its implementation in January 2025, Unity Works has supported over 50 users. The reporting feature has helped create custom reports, which have enabled the Unity Works team to improve their workflows and programs, increasing user engagement.
Unity Works’ Adult Community Learning programme is using CAPTR alongside the LearnerTrack CRM to make it easier to collect data on personal goals, achievements, and feedback. CAPTR’s use in adult learning will be evaluated by a King’s College London Masters student, as part of a review of how effective the programme is, including how it provides materials and supports people with a learning disability to get online.
CAPTR is now part of the trainee offer and, as it rolls out across all social enterprises, it will support 12-month reviews, highlight progress, and give trainees the chance to present their own achievements. Unity Works is also co-creating content with trainees, starting with a library of accessible “How To” videos to reinforce learning and introduce new workplace tasks.
